Child & Family Development Center

CFDC is a unique, early childhood education program for children ages two through five years old. CFDC is accredited by the National Association of Education of Young Children (NAEYC) with highly trained teachers, an excellent child to teacher radio, and enrichment programs in storytelling, music, literacy and art.

CFDC serves an economically and culturally diverse population. There are four classrooms; two classrooms serving two to three year olds and two classrooms serving three to five year olds. It is a Chicago Public Schools Community Partner and recently received the highest rating, 4 stars, from the Illinois Quality Rating Program.

Learning Philosophy

CFDC utilizes the project approach and long-term investigations to facilitate each child's development in his or her particular areas of interest. The program features a developmentally enriching, relationship-based educational program that views the child as both shaped by and a shaper of his or her environment. The goal is to utilize children's play and relationships with adults and peers in ways that support their mastery of self and environment. The children enjoy a stimulating, nurturing atmosphere that allows them to achieve important developmental milestones while instilling a sense of competence and confidence.

Teachers and Staff

Inside the classrooms, the teacher to student ratio for the two to three year olds is one teacher for every six children (1:6); it is one teacher for every ten children (1:10) for the 3-5 year olds. CFDC lead teachers are well educated, holding either Bachelors or Associates degrees in early childhood education. The staff's understanding of early childhood development proves effective at instilling the skills and competencies necessary for children to enter school capable, confident and ready to learn.
