URGENT CALL TO ACTION!
Congress Threatens Budget Cuts for Head Start
Program
At 4:35 AM on Saturday morning, February 19, the United States House
of Representatives passed H.R. 1, a bill that slashes funding for
the federal government - including potentially devastating cuts for
children enrolled in Head Start/Early Head Start - for the remainder
of the federal Fiscal Year 2011.
Although these cuts have already passed the House, the battle for
funding is just beginning. The U.S. Senate will be the next to act
on the House's proposal for federal spending, before the President
either accepts or rejects the final proposal.
The future of more than 218,000 children hangs in the balance, including
52 teen parents in the CCCS Home-Based Early Head Start Program. Each
week, a CCCS staff member visits these teen parents for 90 minutes
in their home, modeling age appropriate parenting skills, talking
about developmental milestones and demonstrating the importance of
bonding. This program is critical for both the teens and their children.
TELL YOUR ELECTED OFFICIAL THAT YOU OPPOSE THESE DEVASTATING CUTS!
Take the time to tell your Representatives in the House that you oppose the cuts they have passed and ask your Senators to stand up for the future of our children and our communities - to stand up for Head Start/Early Head Start.
Send an e-mail, or make a phone call today to your Representatives
in Congress and let them know how you feel. Find out the contact information
for your Representatives here: www.congress.org
