The Peggy Carr Nature Education Center

Margaret (Peggy) Carr has been changing the lives of Chicago’s most vulnerable children for more than 70 years as a member of Chicago Child Care Society’s Board of Directors. In her honor, CCCS is proud to establish the Peggy Carr Nature Education Center, targeted for completion in late summer of 2010.

Located in the agency’s playground area, The Peggy Carr Nature Education Center will be a place where the children in our Child and Family Development Center will learn about the life span of butterflies and the migration of birds. They will witness and learn first-hand how things grow. The children will plant bulbs and flowers and take a big part in caring for them. Our nurturing and gifted teachers will reinforce and utilize Project learning, which is a scientific method of teaching.

The children are encouraged to think “green” and behave in an eco-friendly manner. They will learn about birds that are indigenous to this area and those who migrate here during certain times of the year.
