Chicago Child Care Society Awarded 2010 Barbara Bush Foundation Grant: CCCS One of Ten National Recipients
CCCS is excited to be the recipient of a $65,000 grant from the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy that will be used to support the agency's new Adult and Family Learning Program. CCCS was one of ten grant recipients chosen from nearly 400 applications. Since its inception in 1989, the Barbara Bush Foundation has awarded over $32 million to more than 758 family literacy programs in all 50 states, including our nation's capital.
This grant is particularly meaningful because the Adult and Family Learning Program is modeled after the program formerly offered by the Blue Gargoyle, a well-known Hyde Park agency that closed its doors in 2009 due to financial problems. Jane Hough, who was Director of Family Literacy for the Blue Gargoyle, will direct the Adult and Family Learning program for the Chicago Child Care Society. While the program will be available to Hyde Park and neighboring residents, the primary audience will be parenting teenagers who are either experiencing difficulty in remaining in high school or have dropped out of school.
